The pitahaya or dragon fruit, is an exotic fruit. The climatic and edaphic characteristics of Ecuador affect the quality of the fruit, the same ones that develop an intense aroma, as well as a very refreshing and sweet pulp.\
In Ecuador, producers are committed to the responsibility and need to preserve natural resources: soil, water, vegetation and wildlife, not yet intervened by man.
Varieties
- Yellow: it is characterized for having a spiny skin, it has a size between 8 and 10 centimeters, its pulp is white with small black seeds, of sweet and juicy flavor.
- Red: characterized by having a thick crust, its size is greater than that of yellow (12 cm), its pulp is white with small black seeds, juicy and sweet taste.
Presentation of the product:
The fruit is packed in strong corrugated cardboard boxes with corners and divisions to protect the fruit properly on the way.
Applications
The majority of pitahaya is consumed fresh, however the main product made from pitahaya that is currently being marketed is the frozen pulp. The pitahaya is used as an ingredient in dyes for the food and cosmetic industry.
